GTO vs Exploitative Poker — When to Use Each
The single most misunderstood debate in modern poker
The false binary
The 'GTO vs exploitative' debate is mostly noise. Strong players use both. The real question is: when do you lean which way, against whom, in what spot?
Also GTO is an extremely dynamic equilibrium. GTO versus one player is gonna be different than versus another one if you have the slightest assumption about their game.
How I actually decide
Default to GTO-grounded ranges. Apply population reads to find a higher EV baseline and start deviating slightly in most nodes.
Then, if you have specific information about an opponent, deviate even further. The size of the deviation should scale with how confident you are in the read.

Where most players get this wrong
Two errors: leaning entirely on solver outputs even when reads scream otherwise, or 'feeling it out' against a population without any GTO baseline to deviate from.
The fix isn't picking a side. It's having both tools and knowing when to reach for which.
